This year edition of Record Store Day, that will take place the 18th April 2020, will feature among its releases a new edition of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Vinyls produced in 1980-81 by Original Records (and different from the radio series).

We learnt recently that these recordings, that were never re-issued, will be released in digital downloads and CDs. Well, they are back on vinyl too for a limited release on Record Store Day.

The Record Store Day edition will include the two original albums (“The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” and “The Restaurant at the End of the Universe”) on three 180g heavyweight Vinyls, each in a different color : “Vogon Green, Magrathean Blue & Pan Galactic Purple”! The cover of this new edition is simply the cover of the first original album but with a special sticker!

It is branded as a “42 Anniversary Edition” and “Exclusive to Record Store Day 2020”. It will be published by Demon Records which also released the six H2G2 radio series to Vinyl.

The information of this release is not yet on the official Record Store Day website. But the information has been published on the Record Store Day french website and on Demon Records Website.

EDIT (25 MAY 2020) : Due to the covid-19 pandemic, the Record Store Day 2020 has been pushed back. “The titles on the RSD 2020 Official List, launched on March 5th, will be released at participating record stores on one of these three RSD Drops: August 29th, September 26th, and October 24th”.  No news has been shared by Demon Group about the implication for “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” vinyl.
