In the run up to International Towel Day, Stalbridge, Dorset’s smallest town, will see pop up community events, plus ‘build a recycled spaceship in your front garden’, Vogon Peotry Jams and Gargleblaster mixing competitions. If you are local to them then find out more on their website.

Join them and experience Towel Day – 25th of May – At the Main Festival Event : From Plaque unveiling to teatime finish, a day of joyful unpredictability awaits. Apart from the unveiling at Lydden Cottage the whole event will take place at Stalbridge Recreation Ground?!

Why Stalbrige? In this small North Dorset town, something improbably important happened. At Lydden Cottage [formerly Linnets] on Grove Lane, one day in 1977, Douglas Adams began writing on the concept behind the first BBC Radio play for The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

If you can’t attend, there will be a live stream.

And if you’re looking for local events near you, you can check as usual on towelday.org
