At the beginning of last October, Manchester based Cutaway Comics launched a kickstarter campaign for a graphic novel project ” celebrating the life of the absurdly talented and much missed Hitchhikers creator Douglas Adams”.

Here’s the synopsis.

“Olympic-standard procrastinator, computer guru, frustrated rock star, respected conservationist, techno-futurist, beloved comic genius… Douglas Adams packed one heck of a lot into his all-too short, improbable existence and now Cutaway Comics presents SHARE AND ENJOY, the definitively inaccurate graphic novel celebrating the life and times of this absurdly talented and much missed Earthman.

From Brentwood School, Essex to the palm-lined boulevards of Hollywood, via Cambridge Footlights, Python collaborations, abject misery in a bath with a talking duck, and the rainforests of Madagascar, join us as we explore the life, universe and everything of Douglas Adams in vibrant graphic novel format“.

The script is by award-winning author, playwright and Douglas Adams super-fan, MARK GRIFFITHS, who previously wrote the acclaimed Omega mini-series for Cutaway Comics, as well as the much-loved Douglas Adams hit Edinburgh Fringe play, “We Apologise for the Inconvenience”.

The upcoming 80-page graphic novel features “dynamic and bold art by MARTIN GERAGHTY (Doctor Who Magazine, BBC Studios, Cutaway Comics), Share and Enjoy marks a departure from Martin’s signature muscular action art into a style more reminiscent of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’s fun and whimsy”.

Sadly, the campaign didn’t atract sufficient support, even if 131 backers pledged12 026$  (the objective was set at 67 293 $).

Gladly for us and everyone involved in this ambitious project, it doesn’t mean that we’ll never read “SHARE & ENJOY”.

“Having spoken with Mark, Martin, Sean, Ian and Will, our project team, we have all agreed to keep working on this. There won’t be a Kickstarter, but there will be a graphic novel, out for the end of 2027. Over the next few weeks we will be setting up a pre-order page at www.cutawaycomics.co.uk. This will allow you to order early and as a thank you, get some extra bits of exclusive merch included.

We also hope to make available some of the lovely bonus DVD and merch items designed by Will for you to add to your order. A limited deluxe edition and slipcase is also not out of the question, we just need to sharpen our pencils and see what works on a lower print run. But the book, the brilliant book by Mark and Martin, that WILL happen.”
